Knowing that the Neurodiversity model is essential to the happiness and wellbeing of your Autistic child, your job is to find neurodiversity-affirming professionals to lead you on this journey. You can’t be expected to know the ins and outs of neurodiversity, so you need the right people to show you the way.
How will you find them? How will you know if they are truly neurodiversity-affirming, and not just spouting buzzwords?
The information sheet will briefly catch you up to what we know so far. Parents of neurodivergent children can then use the questionnaire to determine if professionals are neurodiversity-affirming or not. It can be used with Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Counsellors, Educators, and Support Workers, and includes 6 key questions, as well as desirable and undesirable responses (that parents can highlight). This questionnaire must be read aloud to the professional as parents are required to mark responses as they go. After completing the questionnaire, parents should use the Feedback Form to decide if the professional is neurodiversity-affirming.
